Nintendos president, Satoru Iwata, has instructed his subordinates to consider Nintendo victorious over Sony.  Instead, Nintendo now considers Apple its “enemy of the future.”

Sales of the Wii are down nearly 21 percent year over year, and the company’s net profits have seen an almost identical decline. While Nintendo hasn’t been selling either the Wii or the DS as technological powerhouses, Times Online correctly notes that both platforms are starting to show their age. It’s only a matter of time before the iPhone, iPod, and iPad catch up to or even surpass the capabilities of Nintendo’s offerings unless Nintendo introduces new hardware, and soon.

There’s more than enough room in the market for both companies to sell their wares, of course.

WiFi Models: $549 [...]]]> The iPad will finally be available internationally on Mat 28th 2010… with pre-orders starting on may 10th.  Canadians are expected to may 50$ more than their US cousins!

The idea is to put the iPad in a hinged case that contain a bluetooth keyboard to use for typing instead of the on-screen keyboard.  This essentially turn the iPad in some sort of disfunctional netbook (try to use a netbook without a mouse/trackpad).

Sure it would be nice to use to type long documents but does one really need to use an iPad for this?  Long document typing is better done on a full feature computer.

The iPad is mostly oriented for casual document writing, email, surfing, gaming an a bunch of other portable application usage.  I don’t see it being a good document writing platform for day long usage.

I think the case look good but will not be really practical.

Yep, I went on ebay and started looking around for iPads.  I was blown by how much they are selling for! Easilly 600+ for the 499 16 WiFi… and that is without [...]]]> So I got tired of waiting for iPad to sell in Canada.  So what one do when in need of something not sold around? eBay!

I was lucky enough to spot a used one that was hovering at 495 and only had a couple of minutes to go.  So I took a change and bidded 500.99 on it a few seconds before the end.  I was lucky and was able to get it at that price.

The nice thing is that it comes with a transparent silicon case that was put on the day the eBay seller got it.  I have not received the unit yet but from communication with the seller this unit is in perfect condition.

So for less that the retail value (iPad 16GB + Silicon cover) I will get my hands on an as good as new unit within the next few days!

I will sure keep you posted on how I like this thing when it arrives.  In the mean time I am thinking of building a small server that I could use to stream movies to the iPad while in the home and on the road (in the car).  Something based on a netbook running some kind of media sharing application that the iPad could leverage to play movies.

This way I could bring a sizable part of my video library instead of filling up the iPad memory…

Then the next thing you know Apple announce [...]]]> There is a lot of interesting things going on out there.  1st, the iPad just got released in the wild… the next thing you know Microsoft is preparing some announcement on April 12 2010… something about sharing… I wonder what this might be… Maybe something to fight the iPad?

Then the next thing you know Apple announce a preview of the iPhone OS 4.0 for this Thursday (April 8th 2010).  This is getting interesting… and what comes just after…

HP is showing off what the HP Slate will be like.  Making it clear that it will have a fron facing camera and support USB connections, SDHC cards and video out via a docking station.

There is a war about to take place out there… and the two sides are Apple with the iPad and the future iPhone OS 4.0 vs Microsoft and the HP Slate.  I am all for such competition.  This keep everyone on their toes and benefit the end users.

Microsoft and HP are certainly trying to get the attention away from the iPad… and I think they will succeed in some respect if the HP Slate promo is as interesting as what is shown in the video.

On the other hand Apple is trying to keep the attention on what else is to come for iPhone users and most certainly iPad users… something special in the OS4 for the devices.  One thing for sure is that it will be hard to compensate for the lack of camera on the iPad… but they may come out with a front facing camera on the next gen iPhone… as supported by some leaked iPhone 4th gen casing pictures.

I stumbled on this new anti-ebay service called Listia. It allows you to unload all the stuff you don’t need in exchange for “Listia Credits”. You then use those credits to acquire goods other Listia members are listing. Simple? Yep!

I am currently running an experiment where I am offering a gift card with variable value based on the amount of credits I will get… sor of like assigning a $ value to a credit. Right now I estimate that a credit run for about 0.016$. This is based on today’s ended auctions for gift cards… so I am pricing my offering according to that.

I will keep an eye on future listings to see if credits value goes up or down… like tracking the value of the dollar. My reference will be the US$.

A selection of Livestation’s partner channels is now available to watch live on iPhones/iPod Touches and soon iPads worldwide by simply opening the default browsers on the device and pointing it to http://mobile.livestation.com.

Currently there is only a few channels offered as the service is in beta, but Livestation plan to add more free-to-air channels in the coming weeks and add support for premium channels on a login basis. Users who sign up for access to Livestation’s premium channels (CNN, CNBC, Bloomberg, Al Jazeera, etc) on the website (http://www.livestation.com) will be able to login through their iPhones and watch their favourite channels anywhere in the world both on 3G and WiFi.

The problem is not the devices! The problem is the greedy carriers that keep thinking 20 years back when there was no data to speak of, when voice was king and data was confined to floppy disks.

He should actually speak about the carriers and tell them to get up from their precious ass and do something about the lack of transport on their wireless networks.  Invest more in technology instead of crippling the users phone features.  Maybe people would be more inclined to spend money with them.

See, data has escaped and there is no putting this thing in the bottle.  The iPads of the work will consume wireless bandwidth like there is no tomorrow.
