Microsoft Demo Multi-Touch Windows 7

May 29, 2008

OK, this really is like Vista with a multi-touch interface slapped on it. It look somewhat similar to some of the “Surface” demo that I have seen around (especially the playing with virtual water)

I think they are trying to show that they too can come up with a multi-touch OS. They must have intelligence telling them that Apple is about to release something similar and they want to make sure people had seen it first from MS. Good tactic MS. Read more

I was looking through Joost web site tonight and noticed a link for a Plug-In Developer.

I taught, this look like something that might be linked to the possible future video web site. So I went ahead and followed the link. I noticed something interesting in the “Desired” section:

  • Experience of OSX or Linux installation and configuration would be an advantage.
  • Experience with scripting applications including FLASH.

NBC to Offer Free Downloads of Popular Shows

September 19, 2007

NBC.com has announced a service called “NBC Direct” which will allow users to download NBC shows such as “The Office,” “30 Rock,” and “Heroes,” to their desktop. The NBC Direct software will allow users to view each episode for up to one week, at which point the license will expire. While free to view the shows, the videos will include advertising.

NBC Direct will also include a feature for automatically delivering new episodes of NBC shows to users. Versions for both Windows and Mac are expected, with the first release of the software coming in October.

From the NBC release:

The first version of this new feature, which will begin beta testing in October, will allow users to download full length episodes for viewing on Windows based PCs. Each original episode will be licensed to users for viewing through “NBC Direct” for one week following broadcast and will then expire. The downloaded file will provide users with an improved overall viewing experience compared to traditional streaming video.

The list of programs available at launch will include “Heroes,” “The Office,” “Life,” “Bionic Woman,” “30 Rock,” “Friday Night Lights,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”Later in the beta launch, users will be provided the free subscription option that will allow them to pre-select their favorite NBC programs they want to watch. Those shows will be automatically delivered to their computers as soon as they are available after the original broadcast. The downloadable player will also have filtering technology, which will prevent it from playing any stolen copyrighted material.

Microsoft adding Internet TV support to Windows Media Center

September 8, 2007

OK, OK, this is old news (3 days old) ;-)… but here it is none the less. Apparently I overlooked this one in the recent Microsoft CEDIA EXPO 2007 announcement:

Internet TV for Windows Media Center

The number of content providers delivering video over the Internet continues to grow, and Microsoft is supporting this by adding a new Internet TV feature to Windows Media Center. Microsoft said its Internet TV service will be available for all Windows Vista Home Premium-and Windows Vista Ultimate-based PCs in the U.S. This new capability will allow a range of video content to be streamed to any Windows Media Center or Extender in the connected home. Further details will be announced at the DigitalLife event in New York on Sept. 27, 2007.

“This combination of unprecedented partner support, new products and services, and the first-ever Windows Media Center install contest, along with our presence at CEDIA EXPO, proves our commitment to the custom install channel,” Evans said. “Working together, we can bring the vision of the digital home to its fullest potential.”

June 29, 2007

The new 0.10.8 client is now available on the Joost web download site. This version fixes some unknown issues.  You can download the beta clients directly by following the following links:

windows: https://downloads.joost.com/downloads/JoostSetup-FriendsEdition-0.10.8.exe

mac: https://downloads.joost.com/downloads/Joost-FriendsEdition-0.10.8.dmg

Another little thing worth noting is that the Joost website no longer sport the moving colors in the header.  It was apparently too CPU intensive for some users PC/Mac.

Thank you Joost for this welcome change!
