7 known facts about Snow Leopard

Update 2: Apparently PPC might actually be unsupported in Snow Leopard… This, as originally anticipated, might explain the code reduction.

Update: Now that Steve told us about what Snow Leopard is about I have made some changes to the known facts:

Uncia uncia.

Rumors abound about the next OS X release… Snow Leopard… the apparent code name for this release. If true this would be a real strange name for 10.5 Leopard successor. I decided to do some reading on Snow Leopard to try to find out what this new 10.6 name might actually be about:

1. Snow Leopard is actually an intermediate between so-called big cats (Leopard) and smaller species, as it cannot roar. Read: This release is paving the way for smaller/leaner/more portable Apple products/releases… maybe an iTablet?

2. The Snow Leopard is slightly smaller on average than a Leopard. Read: Apple will drop support for old PPC processor code to reduce application size in this release. Great! Less bloat!

3. Snow Leopard tail is proportionately longer than in any other cat species of comparable size. It helps to maintain its balance on the rugged terrain and unstable surfaces. Read: OS X 10.6 will be more stable that 10.5.

4. The head of the Snow Leopard is relatively small. Read: OS X 10.6 will have better optimized code/kernel.

5. It is an opportunistic feeder, eating whatever meat it can find and kills animals three times its size. Read: 10.6 will go for Microsoft jugular or any one else in the way if given the opportunity! Snow Leopard will enable efficient use of multi-core CPU to speed-up the whole OS/application experience.

6. Its agility often proves helpful when ambushing prey and traversing through mountains. Read: Snow Leopard will be better integrated than ever and offer a better user experience (can you read Cocoa all over).

7. Snow Leopard lives within a well defined home range. However, it does not defend its range aggressively when encroached upon by other individuals. Read: Snow Leopard security will not be obtrusive as the OS is not subject to a lot of predators. Snow Leopard should in fact facilitate exchanges with other users/devices entering it’s territory.

Take all this with a grain of salt!

Stop speading fucking lies! I was told that all this is rumors and speculation. There is even a website that got leaked information stating that snow leopard will run on powerpc macs also. Get your fucking intel-fanboy facts straight!

Nadav Ben-Ami, you are very wrong! Maybe you need to rethink your position. Snow Leopard will NOT support the PowerPC chips anymore, and good riddance!
