NewTeeVee is reporting that CBS will likely announce a new video player tomorrow, featuring a raft of new features including new ad targeting, content sharing and augmented social capabilities.

AdAge writes that the player will use a content and advertising engine CBS picked up in its acquisition of Last.fm. There will also be content sharing features that we’ve read include embed functionality, and screening rooms where people can watch and discuss video together online.

It’s fun to watch the scales fall from the eyes of the big networks as they begin to see the light that is the power of online video.

Some people are starting to question the quality of the relationship of CBS and Joost. And Joost apparently took noticed and replied with:

Joost and CBS have a great relationship and we continue to expand it. We’re constantly adding a lot of great content from CBS to our library; in addition to regular refreshes of hit CBS shows, we’ve also added the Twin Peaks, Family Ties, Beverly Hills 90210 and The Love Boat series recently. We’re happy to be a part of the CBS Interactive Network.

But having CBS improve on it’s web based played is centainly not sending the kind of message Joost like to see.

Update:

NewTeeVee just announced that CBS will roll out true HD-quality streaming, full-screen viewing, and embedding capabilities across CBS.com and the CBS Audience Network over the coming months. HD offerings won’t require any additional software or a browser plug-in, and will play straight from the browser. Embed functionality should start rolling out this week; HD is due to appear in July.
