January 18, 2008

Indie music and film site OurStage has announced a new content partnership with Joost that will see user picked content offered to Joost users.Under the deal, OurStage will offer four channels on Joost: Best of OurStage Shorts, Best of OurStage Comedy, OurStage Music Videos and OurStage Artist Access. The channels will give Joost users access to 10 OurStage Artists on each channel and exclusive content including music festival coverage & advice from established musicians & filmmakers.

OurStage launched in March 2007 and lets users rank and buy Inide songs and video. Artists upload their content, which users then judge - two snippets are heard/ watched and the user votes for which one he or she likes the best. The result are constantly updated in to top lists of songs. The top songs overall or by category are then listed on the site, and prizes are given to the top artists each month.

Hi Guys.. what happened to your story “What is going on with Joost”? Did Joost as you to pull the story?

    > What do you think Joost need to rebound?
My comments was simply going to be ‘content content content’ available outside of the USA. Unfortunately I don’t think Joost has the contacts to do it. Look how hard it’s taken a guy like Steve Jobs at Apple to get all the movie studios to agree to a movie rental system. Even now, it’s USA only it will take months/years to be allowed outside of the USA. So Joost is left with a range of second/third rate stuff available outside of the USA. A friend of mine tried Joost the other day and was looking for some cartoon stuff for his kids. He started it up and said how come I don’t get all the cartoons available on the web site… I said it’s only in the USA. So he’s removed Joost from his PC.

This is a problem where the television studios just don’t want to change their existing distribution models. So whilst Joost has great technology, it’s a problem that technology cannot solve.

Well, I was asked to take it dwn. Not because of the content of the post but because some people tend to mistaken my post for official Joost statements… So to make sure my post was not taken for what it was not I decided to take it down ;-(

Got something to say?
