Joost has more than 20,000 programs and 400 channels
December 11, 2007
Joost might have been criticed for not having enough content… but if by enough content one mean number of available programs then I have some news for you… Joost just passed the 20,000 programs mark! During the last 3 months and a half Joost grew it’s program selection from 10,000 to 20,000 (based on onthetoob.com statistics). Not bad. Is that enough content for you?
Back in August 31st when I announced that Joost had reached the 10,000 programs milestone I suggested that if they kept current pace they would be at 20,000 by the end of february 2008. They certainly increased the release cycle, beating the linear estimate by 2 months and a half.
Joost keep adding fresh content to it’s library daily, so keep looking back for more.
Congratulation Joost!

Sure Joost has a lot of content, but for a lot of people this content isn’t available. As per the discussions at http://www.joost.com/forums/f/content-discussion/. For countries like Australia and Canada, the content that is available is pretty second rate. Sure Joost is still in beta, but if they are unable to secure some higher profile channels/shows it will continue to be great technology with limited broad appeal…remember Beta?

You are right. Us Canadian are paying the price of distribution rights of existing Canadian broadcasters. The current model is really hurting what we have access to… especially that none of the Canadian broadcasters are offering good Video content distribution on the internet.
Microsoft is one of the 1st to distribute somewhat fresh movies via it’s Live Market Place Video rental section… and Apple is soon to follow with iTunes. So there is some hope… But those TV show of Lost, Heroes, etc won’t be available any time soon… So torrent is still your only option if your DVR/VCR missed the one episode (or the whole season for that matter).
