OnTheToob, 1st Joost companion site found on the net
Have you noticed this new site? No? OnTheToob.com? It might not look like much right now be let me tell you something… if what I know and what I expect of it materialize then this will be the best companion web service of every Joost users.
The site is the creation of Hal Schechner and his crew that have brainstormed around what Joost was missing to be a better P2PTV experience. Hal has been actively finding bugs and exchanging ideas about the Joost beta client platform for the past two months.
Hal brought the only known Joost Content RSS feed to the web. Some Joost employees are actually using it to keep track of new content being added. It is by far the quickest way to find out when something is added.
OnTheToob is currently limited in functionality but expect this to change weekly as new features are added. You see… Joost is an open platform with tightly controlled content distribution. The current client is good at delivering video content to it’s users but rather limited in it ability to allow them to organize and search through it.
OnTheToob will change all this by allowing it’s members to “Tag” content and search what others have tagged. Tag are currently limited to words but special new tags might get added in the future.
Tag based search will allow someone to look for “funny kittens” and get links to Joost content that others have reported to show “funny kittens”.
One nice feature OnTheToob.com could add would be support for automatic creation of personalized user channels. The search result previously returned could be loaded in Joost as an RSS feed for continuous playback of all “funny kittens” video. As more and more people tag things as “funny kittens” the personalized RSS feed could dynamically update your personalized Joost channel… so the next day more “funny kittens” video would be available.
OnTheToob also offer you a well organized Channel List and Content List. You can also subscribe to RSS feeds of newly added Joost Channels and Content. This way you stay current with what is new on Joost!
I could talk about many more things OnTheToob could do… but I will let you discover them as they are added!
I thought JoostList.com was the 1st Joost related site and a pretty good channel guide too.
Never saw this site… but to tell you the truth, their Channel List is far from complete. Joost has about 150 and joostlist only has about 50… so not really current.
You may want to check back, I think their listing is now current with Joost. Besides they let you vote, review, and post comments about each video. Plus the interface is less painful on the eyes.
I think its easier to navigate than the official Joost guide. As always props to Joost for their content.
