As some users outside Canada and U.S. have noticed this week-end Joost is now applying content restriction based on it’s users location.
OK, what does it mean you ask? Well, for example, the National Geographic content that use to be available all around the globe is now limited to Canada and US only. The only other reported restricted content is from “Nettwerk Music”. It is also limited to Canada and US locations.
This is sad but was somewhat expected. Restrictions like these will only give motivation to Joost users to capture content and make it available across the web in the restricted regions via the Bittorrent network. This is clearly a case where current content distribution rights is actually fueling piracy. If content was free to watch anywhere than people would not need to capture it and make it available across the internet.

I am outside Canada and the US and I can still watch National Geographic…What does that mean?
Dilibeau, where exactly are you located? Was there a change on the Joost end to open Nat Geo to other country than US and Canada? Maybe.
