Joost currently does not natively support remote control. Neither on Mac or Windows.
I think it is imperative for the success of Joost that it offers at least a form of remote control out of the box. Who would want to use a PVR/VCR/TV without a remote?
I know, you can use a mouse and a keyboard… but when I sit in my couch/bed watching TV on MS MCE 2005 I use a remote and love it. Sure I could control MCE 2005 with a keyboard and a mouse… but it would suck.
Joost should make sure they design their interface with remote control in mind… not as an after thought. Right now I really don’t know how I could use Joost with a remote . How would I add channels, search for a channel (need to provide a way to type alpha numerical characters in search text fields), search for a show, look at the show guide, find what is new, build a play list, etc, etc. The interface is certainly nice looking but I don’t think it is really conducive to remote control usage.
Have a look at MCE 2005 (I don’t like the new Vista MCE interface…) and Front Row interface for remote control implementation examples.
You may have the best content in the world but if I can’t find it / access it easily from my couch / bed with a remote I will eventually go back to something that support remote.
So please support the native MS MCE ehome remote setup and the standard Apple Front Row remote in a next beta release. This should give us time to test the application by remote and let you know what work and what does not.
